Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is. The most important product of his effort is his own personality. (Fromm, 1947)
The Maxwell Method of DISC Report aims to help individuals identify their strengths and capitalize on their talents to make them more effective individuals. In identifying one´s own and others innate abilities, attributes, weaknesses and fears, the report help people communicate better and work together more effectively, it assists in the formation of self-directed work teams. Other uses it in staff recruitment, self-improvement, and team building.
Use of the test:
The Maxwell Method of DISC report takes approx. Ten min. to fill in. It consists of 24 questions, each of which has four different possible answers. The person chooses what is “most likely” and “least likely.” There is clear instruction on how to complete the “test.” The answers will then be entered into various graphs, thus showing a person’s profile. The test should be followed by an approx. 30-45 min. debrief to ensure that one understands the report.
The DISC concept is based on William Marston's theories, which describe that people possess one or more personality types (styles):
(D) Dominance: This describes a person who is direct, determined, is a problem solver, a person who takes risks, and who takes the initiative.
(I) Influence: This describes a person who is enthusiastic, optimistic, persuasive, talkative, impulsive, and emotional.
(S) Steadiness: This describes a person who is good at listening, a team player, stable, predictable, understanding, and kind.
(C) Compliance: This describes a person who is accurate, analytical, conscientious, careful, accurate, careful, and systematic.
Research has shown that behavioral characteristics can be grouped into these four overarching groups, which are called personality types (styles). People with the same personality type show a tendency to exhibit behaviors that are common to this type. Most people have both a primary type and a secondary type but still move to various degrees within each of the four types.
